  2. There are a couple of electronic components that I'll need to add to this list if you build the full circuit. I'll update the page when the final schematic is ready.

    1. has this been provided yet? I would like to make it so an actual schematic would be great.

      Awesome work btw.

  3. Looks like the US link for the 2x5 Female Pin headers is "currently unavailable"

    Would these work? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00TX2ZHHC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1THAZDOWP300U

  4. what about the square led for the front?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's a 5mm round LED behind a 3D printed piece, I couldn't find a decent source for small quantity on Amazon but any red LED would work fine.
I'll cover it in more detail in the main guide.

    2. Cheapest one I found on the US Amazon site that was just for a single LED:

      https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MEL7HI6/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

Everything else is for 50 or more!

    3. JP Garcia: search for local electronic clubs. They will likely have leds by the thousands and ive yet to engage a club that hasn't been happy to help.

  5. I'm not seeing the heatsink you mention in the optional list of the preorder in the parts list, just the fan?

    1. I'm assuming he means the usual RasPi3 heatsinks. I've used these on several. Seem to work great with a fan:

  6. Ive composed a list of my own using ebay. Ebay I found was cheaper overall (except for the usb connector). I ended up buying enough parts to make at least two nes minis myself. If you plan on only building one and not making any mistakes it might be cheaper to get individual parts but anyway here is my list if anyone is interested

    3. I should also note that I live in canada. But most of the ebay stores ship world wide. And there also may be cheaper options local to your own country, but you can at the very lease get an idea from these links

  8. Hey daftmike,

In your newest video, it looks like you used a USB Micro-B Breakout Board to bypass the power, but I don't see it in the DIY parts list. Is this correct?

    1. Yes, although if you're not using the kit I assume that you're comfortable with soldering. I'll show in a later video how I modded the Raspberry Pi so I could use the built-in micro USB for power.

    2. Soldering is not an issue :). Thanks!

  9. You also mentioned a USB extension cable?? Is there a link for that as well?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That will be custom made as part of the kit, I didn't find anything suitable for sale.
Again, I'll show in a video how to solder the USB extension yourself if you're going DIY without the kit.

  10. Hello and thank you for your wonderful work and your sharing!

In your editing video on http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1727668, you install a second micro-USB power connector but I do not see the reference in your list. can you please forget this was remedied

  11. Hi, do the 3d plans also apply for raspberry pi 2? I only see the rpi3 mentioned.

    1. Yes, all Raspberry Pi Model B boards have the same layout/footprint.

  12. Hey daftmike,

You mentioned using a 3D printed "part" for the led, but I do not see that in any of the 3D files. Is it possible to obtain that STL?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've just added it to the rest of the files on Thingiverse. Should accept a 3mm led but because it's quite small it might need some sanding/cleaning up after printing.

    2. Will you be uploading the Micro USB holder?

      Delete
    3. Probably not, at least not yet. It still needs work before I'm completely happy with it.
It'll be included as part of the kit so people won't need to print it themselves.

    4. Boo... LOL

I understand. I'll see if I can make something to mount my Micro Breakout board to.

      Thanks!

  13. Will there be a kit or at least a video showing how you wired the switches, front USB and power without the NFC components? The NFC tag is cool but I don't think i'd use it much.

    1. No kit, but I will cover it when the rest of the guide gets published.

    2. Great! what about the small piece you printed to mount the micro usb power port? will you add that file to the 3D print files?

  14. Are you sure you linked to the correct Arduino? Yours in the video has a bunch of ports like where the buttons get plugged in. The linked one doesn't.

    1. In the video the Arduino is soldered to a PCB and the buttons are connected to it, not to the Arduino itself :)

  18. Waiting on the DIY guide myself. I'll gladly buy a kit once they are open for purchase again, but in the meantime I'm trying to put this together for my wife as a Christmas present. Here's hoping we get the guide before then. :D

  19. I too am awaiting the DIY guide. It's the Arduino/switches/NFC reader wiring diagram I need to get this project completed - hopefully before xmas as mine is being built for a gift too. Really great work Mike and thanks for making the files freely available ;-)

  20. do you know when the diy guide will be uploaded? I am looking to make a super Nintendo and other consoles as well. are you also going to release a guide showing how the controllers are made both small and big controllers. Your work is great thanks.

  22. Hi,

Anyone who has received the kit, could you post high res images of the main board top and bottom. That way I can draw up a schematic for the DIYers.

    Thanks

  23. I have the whole circuit figured out except how he powers the raspberry pi without the under current error (rainbow box) showing on the pi. The arduino VCC pin I think he is powering the pi from has max output of 500ma. the arduino will you approx 30ma so that leaves only 470ma for the pi, not nearly enough. Anyone have any idea's?? or high res pics of the board :)

  24. Hello,
Is there any chance a wiring diagram can be made available. I think some of us could figure most of it out but it would be great if it could just be supplied. I have just about all the parts and have printed all the files. Thank you so much for doing this!

  26. Hello
Can anybody help me for the push-butttons ? I think one is self-locking (power) and the other is momentary (reset). But on the list part there are all self-locking. Maybe I can put on in momentary mode, but I am not sure.
Also I find these, is there one better than the other ?

    1. If you take apart the latching switch you can remove a pin and make it into a momentary switch. It's a bit of a pain because the parts are tiny, but it's doable. (See the original http://www.daftmike.com/2016/07/NESPi.html post for details on that).

If you're using the STL designs as-is to print from, I believe that they are based on 7mm by 7mm switches.

    2. Many thanks !
      I'll go for the 7MM x 7MM
